URL Tagging for Google Analytics
The steps presented in this document focus solely on how to append variables for tracking purposes via Google Analytics.
Google’s flexible and easy-to-use features allow marketers and publishers to analyze traffic data, including the traffic generated from email communications. PostUp’s integration with Google Analytics simplifies the URL tagging process by allowing users to specify the variables that PostUp needs to append to URLs at the time of message assembly.

Enabling URL Tagging for Google Analytics
- Once logged in, click on the AppExchange link in the Settings tab.
- When the AppExchange page appears, locate the Google Analytics application.
- Click on the View Details link.
- The Google Analytics application page will appear. Click on the Get Started button.
- A popup window will appear. Click on the radio button next to one of the following options:
- Default parameters that will tag a mailing with the Mailing Reference Number and Mailing ID as key identifiers.
- Custom parameters as defined by the user.
- [Optional] Click on the checkbox next to Append Google Analytics parameters to mailings by default to enable automatic tagging for all mailings.
- Click on Save. The page will refresh and the application will update to an Enabled state.
Managing the Google Analytics Application
Please refer to the steps outlined below to disable the Google Analytics application or to change the current parameters.
- Once logged in, click on the AppExchange link in the Settings tab.
- When the AppExchange page appears, locate the Google Analytics application.
- Click on the View Details link.
- The Google Analytics application page will appear. Click on the Manage button. The following popup window will appear:

From this window, users may:
- Change the selected parameters.
- Enable or disable the automated appending.
- Disable the application and retain the current settings.
- Suspend the application and remove the current settings.
Selecting Domains to Carry the Appended Variables
You may specify which domains should carry the appended variables directly through the PostUp platform. This option allows you to omit appending the variables to a URL leading to an external website, such as a third party banner advertisement.
- Once logged in, click on the Settings tab.
- Click on the Web Analytics Domain link.
- The Web Analytics Domains page will appear. Select one of the following options:
- Use web analytics parameters for all domains.
- Use web analytics for specific domains.
- [Optional] Enter one or more domains into the provided text field if the second option is selected. Please enter the domains one per line.
- Click on Save.
Appending Variables at the Mailing Level
If you choose not to enable the automation feature at the application level, you may append variables at the mailing level.
- Once logged in, click on the Send tab.
- Create or edit a mailing per normal procedure.
- Click on the Responses & Results tab.
- Click on the checkbox next to Add web analytics information to tracked links.
- Send the mailing per normal procedure.
